Is Business About To Pick Up?
Do you ever get the feeling in your gut that something is about to happen? I got that feeling in my gut now and I have a feeling things are going to be picking up in the satellite industry.
My gut feeling is the big buzzword to end the year will be the same one that started 2008, and that buzzword is “HD.”
My gut tells me that satellite customers will be seeing more high definition content and will be seeing it within the next few weeks.
Kicking off the end of 2008 HD rush is IPTV provider UVERSE from AT&T who today announced that they were adding 30 new high definition channels to their lineup on November 3rd. UVERSE’s new HD offerings include a few HD channels which are not currently available on satellite, including Outdoor Channel HD, QVC HD and a few others.
The channels being added to the UVERSE lineup as of November 3rd are as follows –
· @Max HD · 5StarMax HD · ActionMax HD · Comcast SportsNet Chicago HD · Comcast SportsNet New England HD · Comcast SportsNet Southeast HD · Encore HD · Fox Business Network HD · Fox News Channel HD · FSN Detroit HD · FSN Florida HD · FSN Midwest (Kansas City) HD · FSN Midwest (St. Louis) HD · FSN Ohio (Cincinnati) HD · FSN Ohio (Cleveland) HD · FSN Prime Ticket HD · FSN South HD · FSN Southwest (Dallas) HD · FSN Southwest (Houston) HD · FX Network HD · FX Network HD – West · Hallmark Movie Channel HD · HBO Latino HD · HBO Signature HD · HBO Zone HD · HBO2 West HD · Lifetime Television HD · Lifetime Television HD – West · MoreMax HD · Outdoor Channel HD · OuterMax HD · Planet Green HD · QVC HD · Showtime 2 HD · Showtime Extreme HD · Showtime Showcase HD · Speed HD · SportsSouth HD · SportsTime Ohio HD · Starz Comedy HD · Starz Edge HD · Sun Sports HD · The Travel Channel HD · ThrillerMax HD · TMC Xtra HD · Weather Channel HD· Wmax HD
I expect DirecTV to launch a wave of new HD over the next few weeks, and it would not surprise me to see Dish Network add a number of new HD channels just before its 3rd quarter earnings call on November 10th.
With the weather getting cold it will be a welcome gift by many of the satellite fans. I can think of nothing better to do on a cold blustery day then watch some great high definition programming.

QVC HD, why???

Personally I can think of at least one thing I'd like to do more than watch high definition television on a cold blustery day...but unfortunately my girlfriend works days!
DishDunce commented:
Call me cynical, but why does Dish Net always keep new HD channels in their back pocket and only release them in time for press release purposes? I will never forgive them for not releasing SciFi HD until after the BSG season opener.

My gut tells me I have gas. Oh, and also I'll be paying more for TV next year.
