VOOM Moving Up Or Moving Out?

May 7, 2008

Spring is in Bloom for VOOM HD Networks, fans have been happy to see some signs of life at the HD programming giant.  As May 1st rolled around many HD lovers have reported improvements with VOOM’s Monster HD channel.  In addition VOOM has introduced a new movie channels called VOOM HD MOVIES, which focuses on Hollywood movies.  This new VOOM HD MOVIES channel replaced it’s World Cinema HD channel.

Fan are happy to finally see new and better programming on VOOM, but now the question is are these changes too little too late?

VOOM and Dish Network are in court fighting, VOOM is upset that Dish Network has put the VOOM channels in its high end HD tier. And Dish is mad at VOOM for not spending money on new programming.

From where I sit, Dish Network is in the right here.  First on the HD Tier argument, all Existing Dish Network customers are automatically on the HD Ultimate Tier by default.  A customer needs to call Dish to downgrade to the lower package to get rid of the VOOM channels and a few other national HD channels, which saves the customer $10 a month.  VOOM would have an argument if Dish removed VOOM from everyone and you had to call and upgrade, but that was not the case here.

On the programming front Dish is 100% correct here, other then the recent May 1st VOOM changes, the general programming on VOOM has gone down the hill greatly.  VOOM turned onto repeating 8-hour blocks of shows with lots of repeats.  For a time VOOM went from being a HD Programmer to nothing more then a glorified HD demonstration platform.  The programming on VOOM is always great to look at, but if you have already seen everything a bunch of times then the channels hold no value.  I can’t remember the last time where I said I wanted to be home so I could actually sit down and watch something on VOOM.

A New York Judge recently saw things the way I see them and denied VOOM in it attempts to get an injunction against Dish Network.  In the interesting 15 page document from the court Dish Network is so upset at the programming on VOOM that it wants to end the agreement to carry the VOOM channels on Dish Network.

Now personally I think Dish Network and VOOM need each other.  I don’t see Dish dropping VOOM anytime soon.

Now is the time VOOM must pull itself together and continue the momentum they started to build last week VOOM could once again become a true force in the world of HD.

I disagree with getting rid of VOOM HD TV, I think I should be the one to determine what I watch when I want to watch it! Not DISH and Not Cable etc. I really enjoyed VOOMs selection of programs especially; \”Monster and Kung FU HD. Yes, there were repeats in the beginning of their initial run, but then they did a complete 360 limiting their repeats and all was good. Please listen to your loyal paying customers and return VOOM back to us SOON! As for cable vision and Dish\’s answer to add more HD channels to compensate for dropping VOOM, I say no good the channels that cable vision added were just more HBO & Stars which SUCK!!!! wouldn\’t watch them to save my life…Mad as Hell!

I'll admit VOOM! repeats a LOT if not ALL of it's programming, but good lord, you'd have to watch it for almost 24hrs straight to view a repeat. Do y'all (yes, I said y'all) really watch that much TV? No wonder America is so overweight...

voom was good when there was a lack of programmers going HD. now that it seems every major network has an hd channel or plans to...voom is worthless.

oh boy.... here we go. Troll.

I love Voom. I only watch probably 5 of the channels, but that is 5 Full-time HD channels. Uncensored, unedited movies with no commercials, restored to High Definition.

I am upset that WorldCinema went away. But I welcome the better rotation on Monsters HD.

Drop Voom already and get some real cable channels in HD like Directv has. I haven't watched Voom in so long that I could care less if they did add some new programming. THere was a time for Voom back about 4 or 5 years ago when there was little to choose from in hd , but that is not the case anymore. I hope DISH disconnects Voom and it goes Boom.
