They Want Their Imus

I have spoken to a number of satellite retailers here in the Northeast over the past few days and all of them have reported a surprising trend that is causing the phones to ring . A surprising number of people are calling and telling them they want their RFD-TV.  While it was never heavily advertised it seems as though word has got out on the street that Imus would be making his return on the rural cable network RFD-TV.

RFD-TV is a channel known for the “Big Joe Polka Show” and “Classic Tractor Fever” is now the new home of the “Imus in the Morning Show” and is carried by both Dish Network and DirecTV. RFD-TV whos main programming is targeted at rural America is not carried by many of the cable systems in the Northeast.

Two retailers told me that the return of Imus has been a great holiday gift for them, both reported that their sales have been slow over the past month, but now with the demand for RFD-TV they may have a bright holiday sales season after all.

This morning Imus returned to the air on 770 WABC in New York and to RFD-TV, and while he was gone many expected him to get a little rusty, but Imus didn’t seem to miss a beat as he made his successful comeback. As word continues to spread about the return of Imus, I would not be surprised if the phones for these retailers continue to ring up a profitable holiday season.

Earlier this year the folks at Viacom used their Noggin and announced that it would make their popular Noggin channel a full time channel again.

The popular channel for pre school children currently only airs from 6am until 6pm (Eastern Time) and which time the channel turns into “The N” which is a channel aimed at early teens.

On December 31^st, these two channels will officially split and become separate channels. Noggin will go 24 hours a day and “The N” will replace the Nickelodeon Games & Sports channels.

Now at night when my 4 year old can’t sleep I would feel much better having him watch a show like Backyardigans or Lazy Town then watching the Power Rangers. Thanks Viacom for using your Noggin!
