It Has Video Too? Are you SIRIUS?

After being teased for the past few years at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) it appears that Sirius Satellite Radio’s “Backseat TV” will soon (finally) be a reality.

On Wednesday Sirius announced that its long awaited SCV1 would be hitting store shelves by the end of the year with a MSRP of $299.

The words “are we there yet” could soon be a thing of the past for families who have the upcoming Sirius SCV1 installed in their vehicles.

The SCV1 when added together with a backseat video system will allow parents to enjoy Sirius Satellite Radio in the front seat, while the kids in the back are watching live feeds of Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and The Disney Channel.

With the costs of in car video monitors dropping, it will be easy for parents on the go to get a complete system installed in their vehicles for under $1,000.

The live backseat video service from Sirius will cost Sirius Satellite Radio subscribers an additional $6.99 a month for the three-channel video package. Kids (or parents) in the backseat will be able to change channels with an easy to use wired remote control.

As a parent who travels a lot, this is one product that I am looking forward to.

The High School Musical Goes HD

While the long awaited High School Musical 2 debuts on The Disney Channel on August 19, if you’re a DirecTV customer you might want to wait a few more days to enjoy this movie, which is getting good early reviews.

DirecTV customers will get to see the movie in all of its full glory, in full high definition! The HD version of High School Musical 2 will debut on DirecTV channel 101 on August 24, and is a DirecTV exclusive.

The Dog Days of Summer

It seems like the summer of 2007 went by quickly, hard to believe that the kids will soon be heading back to school.

As the dog days of summer draw to a close I would like to take a moment to salute the folks who are not talked about much, the satellite installers.

These unsung heroes have worked all summer long out in the sun and with the heat to “bring the joy” home to new satellite customers around the country. I don’t know about you, but as much as I love satellite technology, I don’t think I would want to be out there in the 100-degree sun on someone’s roof putting up a satellite dish.

These guys and gals do it without thinking twice, and do it just to bring their customers the best entertainment that satellite television can deliver.

So I end this week’s entry by saluting the men and women who work to bring us joy, the satellite installer!   Thank you guys, this one is for you!
