A Great Weekend for Dads
While the weather may be perfect in most areas of the country this weekend many dads might just be sitting in front of their televisions this weekend.
Both DirecTV and Dish Network will be bringing dads the best US Open coverage you can get without carrying Tiger Woods Clubs. Both services will offer their customers fully interactive coverage of this years US Open from the Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California. Viewers will have access to a mosaic of channels from around the course and will be able to select exactly what they want to see from that Mosaic. Each video channel will feature dedicated announcers.
Dish Network customers can tune in on channel 100, and DirecTV customers can watch all the action on channel 701.
DirecTV even sweetens the pot for dads this weekend as they present a free preview of its top shelf “Premiere” programming package. The premiere package contains all of DirecTV’s standard channels plus also includes the premium channels from HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and Starz!
The DirecTV free preview of the “Premiere” package is happening now through 6am Monday Morning.
No matter what your doing this weekend, I wish all dads out there a very happy fathers day!
Dish Adds WGN HD
On Wednesday Dish Network added WGN America HD to its lineup. Its addition came just in time as WGN presented one of the most unique baseball games in a long time to its viewers.
Thursday’s game was a special throwback game, which celebrated 60 years of the Cubs on WGN. In this special telecast both teams wore throwback uniforms (with the Atlanta Braves supporting 1948 Boston Braves uniforms) and WGN themselves took viewer back in time with the first 3 innings presented in black and white with retro graphics and camera angels which were used way back in 1948.
Just about everything seemed realistic 1948 coverage except for the announcers who were talking about today’s modern day baseball news and events.
You could tell that this event was well thought out and was also well executed. The folks at WGN recreated the look so well that they had to put graphics on the screen from time to time to let folks know there was nothing wrong with their televisions (as the video was in black and white) and to enjoy the retro feel of the game.
Hats off to WGN for a job well done and for 60 great years of Cubs telecasts!
