Is DISH Network Buying TiVo?

Things are getting interesting in the rumor department, as Barrons is reporting a rumor which has DISH Network looking to buy TIVO. (http://blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2010/03/24/tivo-rallies-on-dish-bid-rumor/) Shares of TIVO shot up almost fifty cents when news of the rumor broke this morning. If the rumor is true (and I hope it is) then I applaud the move. This is something that they sho ...... Read More
Comments (22)I am not surprised...

It did not surprise me when I got an email last night with the news that DISH Network was filing a counter suit against DIRECTV in their false advertising lawsuit. I remember writing on the day the DIRECTV sued DISH that DIRECTV just opened up a can of worms it did not want to open. If you read the lawsuits from both companies, both companies make some good arguments. But my question is how far wi ...... Read More

Saturdays launch of the ECHOSTAR XIV satellite could not have gone any better. The launch looked amazing in the clear skies over Kazakhstan. The proton rocket and Breeze M engine performed their missions well. The satellite is now on its way to its testing orbit where the bird will be tested thoroughly before it is moved to its permanent home of 119 degrees West Longitude. The ECHOSTAR XIV sat ...... This week was a week of luck, from the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day down to a few lucky people who still have their basketball brackets in place. One more company is crossing its fingers and wishing for luck this week and that company is DISH Network. DISH Network will be launching their newest satellite on Saturday, that satellite is named Echostar 14. The Echostar 14 satellite ...... Read More

The war of words is heating up between DISH Network and DIRECTV. After it’s failed attempt to stop DISH Network from running it “Why Would You Ever Pay More?” campaign in the courts, DIRECTV is getting ready to strike back with its own ad campaign called “To Tell The Truth.” The ads are based on the old game show To Tell The Truth and features long time game sho ...... As we reported in Fridays edition of “The Satellite Dish” it looked like the popular rural channel RFD-TV’s days were numbered as the president of the network sent out an email to it’s viewers letting them know that DISH Network was about to drop the network. In the email it included the direct email address and phone number for DISH Network executives. Publishing that ...... Read More
Comments (4)The Ads Must Be Working

Those “Why Pay More?” ads you see on DISH Network must be working, a few weeks ago DIRECTV made an ad which ran on their website which parodied the ads. But it seems these ads have hit a nerve with DIRECTV as yesterday they filed a lawsuit in the state of New York at the US District Court in Manhatten. The case which is case number 10-CV-1138 claims that DISH Network is running fals ...... Read More
Comments (8)The New DISH HD Is Up For Many

As I reported here in Tuesday’s edition of “The Satellite Dish” has come true, yesterday afternoon Dish Network lit up 9 new national HD channels to its customers. A press release came out this morning announcing the new channels, but again I can see DISH Network is using fuzzy math. Just last week DISH was advertising that they had 150 national HD channels, and now by adding ...... Read More

This morning DIRECTV customer to find that the XM Music channels they have grown use to were gone and were replaced by a new music service called SonicTap. What a game last night, the people of New Orleans finally have something to cheer! I didn’t think last nights commercials were all that, companies paid $3 million dollars for their ads and I could only remember about 3 or 4 companies that advertised last night. Sure I remember all the ads but I can’t remember who they were for. How sad is that. One I do remember is Flo TV which pe ...... Read More
