Bosch

(Amazon Instant Prime, Available Feb. 13) 2/09/2015 8:00 AM Eastern

Amazon’s first run at a drama series in Bosch is a throwback to the more deliberate, plot-and-dialogue-driven detective dramas of yesteryear, rather than like the fast-paced, action-packed crime serials of today.

The series, based on writer Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, stars Titus Welliver (Deadwood) as Los Angeles police homicide Det. Harry Bosch, a tough, committed crime fighter who finds himself on trial for the fatal shooting of a murder suspect. At the same time, Bosch is investigating the discovery of human remains which belong to a missing child presumed lost years earlier.

As he investigates the case, he is quickly drawn into a mystery that could have political ramifications for the city and the police force itself. Complicating matters is Bosch’s on-and-off relationship with a young police officer played by Annie Wersching (24).

Bosch features an impressive cast of veteran actors, including Lance Reddick (Fringe); Troy Evans (ER) and Mark Derwin (The Secret Life of the American Teenager). Viewers, though, will need to be patient with a plot that feels flat and meandering in places to hopefully get a big payoff at the end of the 10-episode show.
