Stakeholders and interested spectators were quick to react Friday to the news the FCC had sunset the ban on exclusive contracts, including a warning from one powerful senator that he would be monitoring the marketplace.
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-W. Va.) said he was reviewing the action "very carefully."

Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) has asked the FCC to extend the program access rules, which are slated to sunset Oct. 5 unless the FCC renews them.
According to a draft order circulated two weeks ago, FCC chairman Julius Genachowski is proposing to allow the access rules, which ban exclusive contracts between distributors and their vertically integrated networks, to sunset, handling those complaints via case-by-case application of a rule against unfair or deceptive practices that will remain on the books.

As the Brooklyn Nets tip off their inaugural season, NBA TV will be on hand throughout the campaign.
The pro basketball league’s network will put the spotlight on Olympic gold medalist Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and company on the fourth season of reality series The Association, as the Nets cross the Hudson River after 35 years of playing in New Jersey.
Starting Oct. 16 at 10 p.m. (ET), the cross-platform series includes episodes on NBA TV and original webisodes on NBA.com.

Paul Giamatti's Production Company To Develop Series for Cable

FX Productions has agreed to a first-look production deal with Touchy Feely Films, the production company headed by Paul Giamatti and Dan Carey.

The two-year deal will have Touchy Feely Films develop series projects exclusively for cable television. The deal with FXP is the first television output deal for Touchy Feely Films.

Showtime will, for the first time, use Brian Kenny, long a staple of ESPN's boxing coverage, for its coverage of Saturday night's event featuring rising superstar Canelo Alvarez.

Kenny will join the broadcast team featuring Mauro Ranallo, who is also the colorful voice of Showtime's Strikeforce mixed martial arts coverage, as well as veteran Al Bernstein and current welterweight world champion Paulie Malignaggi.
