Multiscreen video isn’t just for all of those tech-savvy, tablet-toting wunderkinds. Adults are getting their video fix from sources other than the TV set at an increasing rate, according to a new study.

About 27% of U.S. adults watch video on devices other than a TV, and more than half of that group (53%) does it on a weekly basis, Leichtman Research Group (LRG) found in a survey of 1,240 households.

After teeing off with PGA Tour play at the beginning of the year, Golf Channel last week began streaming its content live on a 24/7 basis.

Golf Live Extra on April 24 initiated live streaming of Golf Channel fare around the clock to authenticated video subscribers from six providers. Available via computers, smartphones and tablets, Golf Live Extra encompasses the network’s coverage of tournaments, news, instruction and original programming. Live streaming of PGA Tour events began in January, when its new TV contract with NBC and CBS went into effect.

Cox Communications has launched the full suite of MoviePlex services, including the live linear channels, video-on-demand (VoD) for set-tops, and MoviePlex Play, the authenticated TV Everywhere service that runs on Web browsers and Apple's iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

Cox is offering the new premium lineup to customers who take its Advanced TV package.
