CTAM VP Marcantel, 47,
Dies After Heart Attack

ARLINGTON, VA. — Howard
Marcantel, the vice president
of educational
events
at the Cable
& Telecommunications
Association
for Marketing,
died
suddenly after a heart attack
on Feb. 15.

Marcantel, who was 47
years old, brought 17 years of
project and event management
experience in broadcast
and cable television to CTAM,
where he led the development
of the content for the
annual CTAM Summit and
other educational events.

Marcantel came to CTAM
from Discovery Communications
where he lastly served
as the director of competition
planning and events.

Earlier he oversaw the
Education Foundation at the
National Association of Broadcasters;
spent 10 years at the
NCTA, where he was responsible
for producing educational
sessions and marketing The
Cable Show; and managed the
CableACE Awards competition.

A funeral mass was held in
his hometown of Kinder, La.,
over the weekend. A memorial
is being planned for a later
date in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by his partner,
Jeff Paige of Washington,
D.C.

C-SPAN Bus Driver Connors
Dies at 61 After Illness

WASHINGTON — Mike Connors,
the first driver of the iconic CSPAN
Bus, died on Feb. 12 at
age 61 after a long illness, the
cable industry-funded public
affairs network
said.

Connors,
of
Racine, Wisc.,
worked at
the network
for 17 years,
starting as the bus’s first driver
in 1993. C-SPAN launched the
bus program to bring the world
of public affairs into schools
and communities nationwide.
Connors logged more than half
a million miles.

Connors is survived by his
wife, Linda, and son, Chad.
