Cox Readies New Latino-Aimed Service

Cox Communications will try to make another splash in the over-the-top video pool with “Glosi,” an Hispanic-focused subscription video-streaming service that will deliver “thousands of hours of exclusive content and original programming.”

The new multiservice, from a unit called Glosi Entertainment LLC, will launch in pilot mode this August ahead of a broader commercial launch.

Glosi will sell for $9.99 per month, or $7.99 under a prelaunch price that also comes with a one-week free trial. Glosi is also offering a 40% discount to consumers who pony up for three months of service (plus two weeks for free) for $17.97.

Cox said Glosi will be ad-free and will allow for multiple users to access streams from one account.

Glosi is just the latest OTT-facing initiative from Cox, which had previously tested FlarePlay (a subscription gaming service) and FlareKids (a curated Web video offering tailored for youngsters), but said in February it was shutting down all of its Flare-branded services.

DirecTV launched Yaveo in late 2014, but shuttered that Spanish-language OTT service about five months after AT&T acquired DirecTV.
