Azteca America, Pappas Sign LMA for Flagship L.A. Station

Univision Debuts Series; Shakes Up Ad Team

Univision Communications Inc., the nation's largest Spanish-language network, kicked off 2008 with a major executive shuffle in its advertising sales department, debuted a Spanish-language version of Desperate Housewives, and announced the Jan. 20 debut of the first-ever animated series on primetime.

ESPN Deportes Connects With 2008 Caribbean Series

ESPN Deportes and Cultiva Entertainment have reached an agreement that makes the network the exclusive U.S. Spanish-language telecaster of the 2008 Caribbean Series, the 50th anniversary of the round-robin tournament. Under the deal, terms of which were not disclosed, ESPN Deportes will bring home the action from Santiago, Dominican Republic from Feb. 2-7. For the first time, the 12-game tourney, featuring teams from Mexico, the Dominican Republic (two, as Puerto Rico is not participating this year) and Venezuela, will play out in the same venue: Santiago at Cibao stadium, home to Águilas Cibaeñas, one of the most prolific teams in winter baseball.

Sorpresa Gets Liberty Launch in Puerto Rico

Sorpresa Network launched Jan. 1 on Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico, pushing the children's network aimed at Spanish speakers beyond the 1-million-subscriber mark, it said. The launch on the Liberty Global-owned cable operator added 90,000 subscribers, the Jupiter Content-owned channel said.
