Study: Cable Competition in Michigan Moving Slowly

One year after the passage of a law designed to ease the entry into the cable market of competitive providers in Michigan, only 110 of 2,000 communities in the state have a choice of cable providers, according to a study by the law firm Howard & Howard, which counsels municipal governments.

Amino Ships 1 Millionth Set-Top Box

• AT&T introduced new interactive TV features for U-verse TV customers in San Diego that include customizable news, weather and other information; YellowPages.com listings; and games.

• Verizon began offering FiOS TV to consumers in Wayland and Norfolk, Mass., bringing its presence in the state to 4,700 more households. FiOS TV is now available to consumers in more than 400,000 Massachusetts households in 63 communities.

• Optibase announced that a "major TV network" in the United States, which it did not identify, selected its IPTV solution for an in-house video delivery system.

• Sweden's Dreampark announced the first delivery of its Dreamgallery IPTV middleware to Spanish operator TV Almansa, in cooperation with systems integrator bcSistemas.

• Comverse said the Andorran Telecommunications Service (STA), the telecom run by the country in the eastern Pyrenees mountains and bordered by Spain and France, has deployed its IPTV solution.
