Verizon filed a federal lawsuit last week against Time Warner Cable, alleging the cable operator’s TV ads make “blatantly false” statements about its FiOS services in an attempt to dissuade customers from switching.

• Microsoft and Sigma Designs announced a collaboration to enable the Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV and multimedia platform to operate on set-top boxes using the new Sigma SMP8654 system-on-a-chip.

• Verimatrix said its Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV has been deployed for more than 4 million screens.

• Verizon won video franchise agreements in four New York towns: Roslyn Estates on Long Island; Wappingers Falls in Dutchess County; Stony Point in Rockland County; and Hamburg, N.Y., in the western part of the state.

• Harmonic introduced DiviCom FLEX, a universal video and audio decoding module for its DiviCom Electra and Ion encoders, which enables full IP video processing across all headend devices.

• KyLinTV announced the opening of its Content Delivery Center in Toronto to enhance its Chinese IPTV broadcasts.

• India's Eenadu Television Network (ETV) implemented Harmonic’s encoders and statistical multiplexers in upgrading to IP-based MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) digital headends.

• France's Canalsat, part of Vivdendi's Canal+ Group, expanded its ADSL video service with MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) digital video solutions from Harmonic.

• John Wiley & Sons published "Next Generation IPTV Services and Technologies" by IPTV expert Gerard O'Driscoll.

• MatrixStream Technologies introduced the X1 Streaming Server, a two-rack-unit-high solid-state server capable of streaming up to 5,000 HD streams over IP.
