• Verizon has begun building fiber-to-the-home in parts of Hampton Roads, Va., and the company plans to begin upgrading facilities in the coming months in nearby Poquoson, Portsmouth and York County. Verizon also continues its build in Chesapeake, Newport News and Virginia Beach.

• NXTcomm08 (June 16-19, Las Vegas Convention Center) will include an exhibit-floor IPTV studio and expanded conference sessions featuring converging technologies and IPTV equipment.

• The city council of Manassas, Va., granted Verizon a 15-year cable franchise on May 5 covering approximately 12,000 households.

• Worldwide shipments of IPTV set-top boxes will grow at a compound annual rate of 37.1% through the end of 2012, according to an IMS Research study.

• Verizon was granted a cable franchise for the 4,000-household town of Lakeville, Mass.

• Verizon began marketing FiOS TV to 8,500 households in Rochester and Walpole, Mass.
