Verizon Eager To FiOS-ize New York City

Verizon Communications told New York City’s Franchise and Concession Review Committee (FCRC) on May 20 that it is “ready, committed and eager” to deploy its FiOS network in all five boroughs of the city, passing around 3.1 million households.

Verizon Takes Starz’s Broadband Play

Verizon Communications will offer Starz Entertainment’s Starz Play online movie service to its 8.5 million broadband customers, and telco also secured distribution rights for FiOS TV to all 16 Starz movie channels, high-definition channels and video-on-demand offerings.

Verizon Tips Off FiOS TV Ad With Celtics' Garnett

• AT&T named Don Cain president of its Texas division, replacing James Epperson Jr., who has been appointed to senior vice president of state legislative and regulatory affairs at the telco's corporate headquarters in San Antonio.

• Bell Canada launched of the Bell Video Store, offering more than 1,500 movies and TV shows for purchase or rental, which is the first online service in Canada to offer download-to-own movies the same day they become available in retail stores.

• Five communities in New York -- West Seneca, Tonawanda, Baxter Estates, Blasdell and Montebello -- granted video franchises to Verizon last week.

• Verizon received a video franchise from the town of Happy Valley, Ore., on May 20, bringing to 18 the total number of Oregon communities that have approved video franchises for the telco.
