History Targets Kids Ages 7-11 With 'Planet H'

A+E Networks' History has launched Planet H, a brand extension that will consist of content targeted towards kids ages 7-11. The network describes the initiative as an opportunity for children to "explore historical topics and eras through play."

Following that theme, the initial content offered by Planet H will consist of two mobile games. "Empire Run," an animated, side-scrolling game which brings characters through various historical civilizations, and "Frontier Heroes," which focuses on American history, have both been made available as iOS, Google Play and Amazon Kindle apps. Each game is accompanied by "Did You Know" historical facts that appear as users progress through various levels.

The network also detailed plans to expand Planet H beyond mobile gaming content in the future.

"There is a void in the marketplace around high-quality, historically inspired content that is dynamic and engaging for kids. Planet H is launching mobile first, but it is a long-term initiative with great potential to reach children with an array of content and products," said Dan Suratt, executive vice president, Digital Media and Brand & Content Licensing, A+E Networks, in a statement.

The network plans to launch additional games later this year and in 2015.
