Wal-Mart Takes Vudu to PS3
You can’t go more than half a news cycle without bumping into a new development on Internet-delivered TV.
Hulu Plus officially launched today — at a 20% discount — and separately Wal-Mart announced that it struck a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring the Vudu broadband-delivered movie service to the PlayStation Network later this month.
The companies are touting the Vudu service’s 1080p HD and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound streaming to the PlayStation3. Wal-Mart bought Vudu in February (see Wal-Mart Punches Movie Ticket).
Note that the PlayStation Network already offers access to some 27,800 movies and TV shows. Ps3 users also have the option to subscribe to Hulu Plus.
The Vudu application launches Nov. 23 on the PlayStation Network with more than 4,000 HD movies from all major Hollywood studios on-demand, including new releases available the same day they are released to DVD or Blu-ray Disc, according to the companies.
