CTHRA Sets Theme For May 2 Symposium
The Cable and Telecommunications Human Resources Association (CTHRA) said its 2013 Symposium will center around the theme "The Power of Perspective." The organization’s annual event will take place on Thursday, May 2, at Discovery Communications’ corporate headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.
“Our industry operates in a complex, fast-paced, dynamic environment. To make the best strategic decisions, it’s imperative for HR professionals to consider a variety of viewpoints,” Eric Hawkins, CTHRA board member, Symposium co-chair and SVP of human resources (HR) for Discovery Communications, said in a release.
One of the viewpoints that attendees will consider is that of newly hired leaders. Cross-industry studies show a staggering 40 to 50% of outside hired executives do not succeed in their jobs. Internally promoted executives fare better overall, but not by much. As the Symposium keynote speaker, Michael Burroughs, veteran executive recruiter and author of “Before Onboarding,” will outline a proven process for new leader integration that helps new executives secure early wins, avoid costly mistakes and sustain their early successes in the long term.
In addition to the keynote address, CTHRA’s Symposium will feature interactive breakout sessions, closing general session, a networking breakfast, awards luncheon and a networking reception. Full details and secure online registration are available at www.cthra.com/symposium.
