‘Active’ Users For TV Second-Screen TV Loyalty App Surpass 800,000 in May

Viggle, a company that has developed a second-screen platform that offers rewards for watching TV shows, said it has eclipsed 3 million registered users after adding 400,000 in May.

Viggle, which counts DirecTV among its customers and GetGlue among its competitors, said “active” users likewise grew 26% in May, to 838,189, with 29% of all registered users considered active in the month. Viggle determines active users by calculating how many registered users have logged into the company’s app at any time during the month.

NFL Docuseries Will Premiere New Season Aug. 6
 
HBO has tapped the Cincinnati Bengals for the eighth season of its NFL docuseries Hard Knocks.

The new campaign will premiere Aug. 6 at 10 p.m. The series, which takes a behind-the-scenes look at an NFL training camp, will air on Tuesdays again for the second straight year. Last year's version with the Miami Dolphins was the show's second-most watched in the past decade with 4.1 million viewers per week.

More than a third of U.S. sports fans use smartphones to tap into sports content and of those fans, 36% view sports content via their mobile device at least once a day, a new survey found.

Some 44% of fans watch sports on high-definition television, reports the study from Sporting News Media in conjunction with Kantar Media and TV Sports Markets.

HBO Vampire Drama Down 13% from Season-Five Opener

The sixth season premiere of HBO's True Blood on Sunday at 9 p.m. drew 4.5 million viewers, shedding 13% from its season five premiere and down 11% from its last season finale in August 2012.

Across its two airings -- which were up against Gme 5 of the NBA Finals on ABC -- 5.6 million total viewers tuned in the premiere. HBO also aired its special #TrueBlood: Live from the Set, which featured the cast answering questions live from the show's set and garnered 2.3 million viewers.
