U.S. Students Will Work With African Peers to 'Cause An Uproar'

Four public schools in New York City, Philadelphia, St. Louis and Salt Lake City have been selected to participate in a unique cross-cultural initiative, National Geographic's Big Cats Sister School Program.

Beginning in fall 2012, the program will pair the U.S. schools with schools in Kenya, Tanzania and Botswana under the shared theme of big cat conservation.

Canby Telcom’s slimmer, trimmer TV tier for Roku boxes will pay tribute to the broadcasters in the form of retransmission fees and take other steps to ensure that the telco avoids any legal entanglements with broadcasters.

“We designed the service so it would not duplicate any of those problems that got Aereo and ivi sued,” said Brandon Zupancic, Canby Telcom’s vice president of network operations. “Aereo and ivi were looking to push the barriers of copyright laws, and we’re not looking to do that.”

The Committee to Protect Journalists said Tuesday it was "alarmed" by reports that the Justice Department was investigating a Fox News reporter as a co-conspirator in the leak of classified info because he sought that information from a source.

The Digital Place-based Advertising Association has hired cable industry Barry Frey as its new president and chief executive officer.

Frey, a long-time media and marketing executive whose career includes stints at Cablevision and USA Network, will lead the organization that represents digital placed-based networks and the advertising community that is engaged in planning, buying and evaluating the effectiveness of the medium.

FX has promoted Julie Piepenkotter to executive vice president of research for FX Networks.

In her new role, Piepenkotter will head up all program and consumer research for FX, FXM and the upcoming FXX, which will be rebranded from Fox Soccer Channel beginning Sept. 2.
