The Hub has hired Disney Channel and Disney XD Networks executive Nikki Reed as senior vice president, programming & development, to succeed Donna Ebbs,  who served as The Hub’s first programming chief and helped launch the network in October 2010. Ebbs has transitioned to a new role as a consultant and an executive producer for The Hub and is responsible for pursuing and developing several new properties and securing unique production opportunities for the network.

Outdoor Channel said Wednesday that it has entered into definitive merger agreement with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment for $8.75 per share in cash, a deal that values the network at about $227 million.

"Our board of directors has unanimously determined that the proposed all-cash merger with KSE offers superior value for our stockholders," said Outdoor Channel CEO Tom Hornish, in a statement. "We are pleased that Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has agreed to purchase Outdoor Channel."

ESPN 3D and 3net, the 3D channel from Discovery Communications, Sony and IMAX, are now available to Kansas City residents lucky enough to live in one of the few neighborhoods where Google is currently offering fiber-to-the-home IPTV and 1 Gigabit Internet service.

ESPN 3D is available for an additional $5 per month to Google Fiber customers who take the $120 monthly Gigabit + TV plan, while 3net is included for no additional charge.

In Kansas City, Google Fiber competitors include Time Warner Cable, which charges an additional $10 monthly fee for ESPN3D.

Turner Broadcasting System, said Thursday it has reached a long-term carriage agreement with the National Cable Television Cooperative, the purchasing group for small and medium-sized cable operators. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the terms of the agreement, Turner’s diverse portfolio of networks including CNN, HLN, TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies (TCM), truTV, CNN International, CNN en Español and Boomerang will continue to be carried by NCTC’s nearly 1,000 independent cable operator members nationwide.

The Weather Channel is using Elemental Technologies’ video-encoding systems to deliver live programming over the Internet to millions of users through its mobile apps and Web properties, as well as YouTube.

The programmer has deployed the Elemental Live software, which runs on off-the-shelf graphics processing units (GPUs) instead of special-purpose chips, in its Atlanta operations center, according to the companies.

Theano Apostolou Upped To EVP At Starz

Starz has promoted Theano Apostolou, who is the company’s chief press officer and spokesperson, to executive vice president, communications from senior vice president of corporate communications and program publicity. Based in Los Angeles, she is responsible for the network’s overall communications strategies, programming publicity and external affairs. She will remain as the chief press officer and spokesperson for the company.

Sports Magnate Offers $8.75 Per Share For Network

Denver sports magnate Stan Kroenke’s Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has made a competing offer for the Outdoor Channel, a deal which seems to trump an earlier agreement between the hunting and fishing network and Sportsman Channel parent InterMedia Holdings.

Kroenke Sports, which also owns regional sports network Altitude Sports and the World Fishing Network, offered $8.75 per share in cash for the outstanding stock of Outdoor Channel, a bid worth about $227 million that seems to far outpace InterMedia’s $8 per share deal.
