The Newtown, Conn., elementary-school shootings on Dec. 14 that killed 20 young children and six adults may inspire tougher gun-control laws.

Barry Kluger hopes lawmakers also help working parents take the time necessary to grieve for a lost child.

In 2001, after his 18-year-old daughter, Erica, was killed in a car accident, the former MTV Networks executive was able to take personal time off to seek support.

Las Vegas -- NBCUniversal’s Bravo Media announced the launch of its first app for connected TVs, designed to engage fans with supplemental on-demand video, games, polls, information and social sharing across a range of the network’s shows and personalities.

Initially the app will be available across a range of devices, including Samsung Smart TVs and Smart Blu-ray players, Yahoo Widgets and Google TV.

Zeebox, the U.K.-based startup whose backers include Comcast, NBCUniversal and Viacom, plans to integrate Gracenote’s Entourage automatic content recognition system into its TV companion apps to “listen” to audio and identify programming on the big screen.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The companies plan to demo Zeebox featuring Gracenote Entourage next week at the International CES in Las Vegas.
