Starz Encore Ups Four Programming Execs

Starz Encore Group LLC Thursday announced four promotions within its programming department.

Emilio (Che Che) Mata was upped to senior vice president, on-air promotion, from VP, creative services.

Ray Milius has been promoted to senior VP of programming operations, from VP, technology.

James Porter was elevated to VP of postproduction and Starz Encore’s broadcast-operations center, from executive director of postproduction and operations.

Three Showtime Programming Execs Get Seniority

Showtime Networks Inc. announced three promotions in its programming department Tuesday.

Danielle Gelber has been promoted to senior vice president, original programming, from VP, original programming.

Gary Garfinkel has been upped to senior VP, film acquisitions, from VP, film acquisitions.

And Sara Fischer has been promoted to senior VP, production, from VP, production.

VH1 Queues Up ‘Political’ Programming

Who has more bling: President George W. Bush or democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.)?

VH1 will attempt to answer that question Monday, Aug. 30 at 10 p.m. when it airs The Fabulous Life: Bush vs. Kerry Bling-Off.

The special will help to determine “which candidate has the best homes, the blingier bride and can boast the best ride,” the network said.

Playboy Names New Programming Head

Ned Nalle has joined Playboy Enterprises Inc. in the newly created position of president of programming for Playboy Entertainment Group.

Nalle had been a consultant to media companies including Liberty Media Corp., Corbis and The American Film Institute.

At Playboy, he will oversee the development, production and acquisition of programming for the company's 39 domestic and international television networks and other media outlets.

Firestone to Produce Q Programming

Q Television Network and Firestone Communications Inc. announced their second deal this week.

On the heels of Wednesday’s announcement that Firestone will assist Q in moving its main satellite connection from New Orleans to Fort Worth, Texas, by redigitalizing the network’s signal and sending it through to RCN Corp. for uploading, the two parties said Friday that Firestone will produce a portion of Q’s live programming.

Wisdom, Animus Team Up on Programming

Wisdom Media Group and Animus Entertainment Group have formed a strategic business alliance to create and distribute content in the health, wellness and consciousness programming genres, the two companies announced Monday.

The nonexclusive agreement gives Wisdom first rights on Animus’ original production ideas and content concepts currently under development.

FX Ups Programming Exec Schrier

FX has promoted Eric Schrier to vice president of current series and alternative programming.

In his new post, Schrier -- who has been with FX since 2000, most recently as director of current series -- has oversight for all of the network’s existing series, including hits The Shield and Nip/Tuck, as well as development of alternative programming.

Gauthier to Lead GSN’s Original Programming

Zig I. Gauthier has joined GSN in the newly created post of vice president of original programming.

Gauthier had been VP of development at FSN.

In his new role, he will develop new projects and oversee a portion of the network’s current production slate of game-related programming.

Gauthier will report to GSN senior VP of programming Ian Valentine.

AMC Unveils New Original-Programming Slate

AMC Monday unveiled a new slate of original series and specials to air beginning this summer.

In June, AMC will debut a new 13-part series, Into Character, offering movie fans the opportunity to live out their film fantasies. It joins current skeins DVD_TV and The AMC Project.
