Brown Drops Hammer on Rigases

New York -- Delivering damaging testimony in the trial of Adelphia Communications Corp. founder John Rigas, his sons -- former chief financial officer Timothy Rigas and former executive vice president of operations Michael Rigas -- and former director of internal reporting Michael Mulcahey, former director of finance Jim Brown told jurors Thursday that every financial statement Adelphia released from 1996-2002 was fraudulent.

Fox Sports Digi-Nets Pulled in NYC

Fox Sports Net’s three out-of-market digital networks have been pulled from Time Warner Cable’s New York-area systems -- another casualty of the dispute that has kept Madison Square Garden Network and Fox Sports New York off the MSO’s local lineup.

Cox Rolls Out Spanish-Language Billing

Cox Communications Inc. said Thursday that subscribers in Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz., can now opt for Spanish-language bills.

The MSO said it will roll out the option in its other markets throughout the rest of the year.

"Certainly, there is much more to offering a billing statement in Spanish than simply translating the existing bill,” Cox director of multicultural marketing Cesar Cruz said in a prepared statement.

Cable Ops Assess Charley’s Toll

Hurricane Charley might total out at more than $7.4 billion in damages to become Florida’s second-most-costly storm ever, but cable companies were still trying to assess damage in the hardest-hit areas.

In some communities -- such as Punta Gorda, which took the brunt of the storm, and barrier islands such as Sanibel and Captiva -- authorities did not even open the area to residents until Aug. 18, a full five days after the storm hit.

SusCom Closes N.Y. System Buy from RCN

RCN Corp. said Tuesday that it closed the sale of its Carmel, N.Y., cable system to Susquehanna Communications Inc. for $120 million.

RCN said it would help Susquehanna with the migration of video and high-speed Internet customers and support the system’s voice services "for a period" following the closing.

The system has about 30,000 subscribers, so the purchase was for some $4,000 per customer.

Comcast: TechTV + G4 = G4TechTV

Comcast Corp. said Monday that its acquisition of TechTV from Vulcan Inc. is final, and the MSO will merge the network with its G4 video-game-themed network.

Beginning May 28, the two networks will become one network called G4TechTV, which will be available in approximately 44 million cable and satellite homes nationwide.

G4TechTV will be headquartered in Los Angeles.

TVG Meets with N.M. Gov.

Television Games Network Thursday responded to criticism from New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.

TVG, members of Richardson’s office and representatives from state regulatory agencies met Thursday to discuss the concerns raised by Richardson Tuesday. The parties agreed to work together and continue to discuss the issues.

TVG will continue to be distributed via cable and satellite systems in New Mexico. The network voluntarily suspended its transactions with New Mexico residents Tuesday until a compromise is reached.

Adelphia Picks Up In Demand’s INHD

Adelphia Communications Corp. signed a deal to carry INHD and INHD2, the HDTV channels from In Demand.

The networks carry a mix of live and taped collegiate and professional sports, plus commercial-free films and general-entertainment programming.

The pact marks In Demand’s second nonowner affiliation agreement for its HD channels. Cablevision Systems Corp. is the other.

Comcast Corp., Cox Communications Inc., Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks already carry In Demand’s HD networks.

Comcast Adds Broadband, VOD Content

Comcast Corp. is adding a “PhotoShow Deluxe” digital-photo-organizing service for its high-speed subscribers, as well as wedding-related content for its TV video-on-demand service.

PhotoShow Deluxe will allow users to create multimedia slideshows and add music, transitions, animation and clip art for their personal photo collections. Comcast is teaming up with Simple Star Inc., a consumer imaging and software company based in San Francisco.
