Bellville Leaving Charter

Charter Communications Inc. executive vice president and chief operating officer Margaret Bellville has resigned after less than two years on the job, the nation’s fourth-largest MSO said last Friday.

Bellville, one of cable’s highest-ranking female operations executives, joined Charter Dec. 4, 2002, as executive VP of operations after a short stint as CEO of streaming-media provider Incanta Inc.

BendBroadband Adds Two HD Channels

BendBroadband said Thursday that it has added two Portland, Ore.-based HD channels to its lineup.

ABC affiliate KATU and Oregon Public Broadcasting affiliate KOBP can be viewed in HD by BendBroadband subscribers with HDTV-ready sets.

The central Oregon operator also offers six other HD channels: Discovery HD Theater, ESPN HD, Showtime HD, HBO HD, HDNet and HDNet Movies.

EchoStar, Turner Ink Carriage Deal

After months of tense talks, EchoStar Communications Corp. reached a deal Thursday to continue carrying several Turner Broadcasting System Inc. networks: Cable News Network, CNNfn, CNN Headline News, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies and Turner South.

“We have an agreement in principle, and we’re still working out the details,” EchoStar spokesman Steve Caulk said.

Neither Caulk nor Turner spokeswoman Shirley Powell would comment on the terms of the agreement.

Chrosniak: Adelphia Subscriber Adjustments ‘Bogus’

Former Adelphia Communications Corp. investor-relations director Karen Chrosniak said the MSO’s accounting department made “bogus” adjustments to subscriber data, but she did not know who was responsible, Dow Jones reported.

Her testimony Thursday came during the trial of former Adelphia chairman John Rigas, his sons -- former chief financial officer Timothy Rigas and former executive vice president of operations Michael Rigas -- and former director of internal reporting Michael Mulcahey.

Comcast Ups Burke, Shuffles Cable Unit

Comcast Cable Communications Inc. president Steve Burke has added the title of chief operating officer of Comcast Corp., the MSO said Tuesday.

“Steve has done a fantastic job leading the tremendously successful integration of Comcast and AT&T Broadband over the past 18 months," Comcast chairman and CEO Brian L. Roberts said in a prepared statement.

“Steve is one of the outstanding leaders of the cable industry and has effectively been performing the functions of COO of Comcast for some time,” Roberts added.

Mediacom Launches New Premium Strategy

Looking to sign new digital subscribers and prevent customers from jumping from satellite, Mediacom Communications Corp. said it plans to begin marketing a package of premium-movie channels to subscribers who would be able to get the programming without buying expanded-basic packages.

CWA Takes On Comcast Again

The Communications Workers of America continued plugging away at Comcast Corp.

The union sent a letter to major Comcast investors warning of problems uncovered by technical audits in Massachusetts, Michigan and California that uncovered noncompliance with safety and electrical-code provisions.

Cablevision Launches 'Optimum Latino' Portal

Cablevision Systems Corp.’s Optimum Online high-speed-data service and Planeta Networks Inc. Tuesday announced the launch of Spanish-language portal "Optimum Latino."

The portal joins the MSO’s recent launches of a Spanish-language customer-acquisition Web site and its addition of iO en Español to its iO: Interactive Optimum digital-cable service.

Optimum Latino features news and information, multimedia content and other applications.
