Charter Communications has hired Rocky Boler, a longtime cable industry customer service professional, as senior vice president,  customer care. He will oversee all facets of the Charter customer care organization and continue the focus on delivering superior service to Charter customers, the company said. He reports to executive vice president Kip Mayo, who said in a release: “Rocky has had a long tenure in the cable industry and brings both strategic leadership and hands-on experience to his role at Charter.”

MSO Starts Limited Offer of E-DTAs That Let Boxee's New Video Device Access an Encrypted Form of Comcast's Basic TV Tier

Comcast has begun to make available a new type of Digital Transport Adapter (DTA) that will feed an encrypted form of its basic digital video tier to Boxee's new Cloud DVR product.

Comcast is notifying eligible Boxee customers about the E-DTA in "select markets" where Comcast has begun to encrypt its "B-1" tier, a spokeswoman said.  She didn't reveal those markets, but noted that Comcast intends to phase in B-1 encryption in additional cities over the comings months.

Bob Wilson, the chief content negotiator for Cox Communications, will retire at the end of the year, departing after a 34-year career with the company.

Wilson joined Cox in 1979 as a business manager, handing financial planning for new franchise operations.  At the time, Cox served just 500,000 customers and Wilson was one of just 45 employees based at the MSO's headquarters in Atlanta.

Cablevision Systems CEO James Dolan announced a realignment of its senior leadership Tuesday and is keeping it mostly in the family, elevating his wife and long-time executive Kristin Dolan to president of Optimum Services and his brother-in-law and MSO veteran Brian Sweeney to senior executive vice president, strategy.

The moves, Cablevision said, are part of an effort to accelerate its transformation into a more customer-focused organization and streamline the day-to-day management decision-making processes. All of the executives will report to James Dolan.
