WWE Pins Acacia Patent

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. inked a license agreement for Acacia Research Corp.’s “Digital Media Transmission” technology.

The deal will cover all non-live streaming and downloads of audio/video content from WWE.com (www.wwe.com) and the company's more than 200 other Web sites, including its “Webcast On-Demand,” “WWE Video Library” and “Match Jukebox” services.

Freston, Moonves Bring Home the Bacon

Viacom Inc. co-presidents and co-chief operating officers Tom Freston and Les Moonves may have a lot more responsibility in their new jobs, but at least they will be well-compensated -- extremely well-compensated.

According to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday, Freston and Moonves, named to their new positions in June, could make more than $15 million annually in salary and bonus.

Video encoding vendor RGB Networks has upgraded its TransAct Transcoder product to handle uncompressed SDI-sourced live content in addition to on-demand file-based video, for delivery of "TV Everywhere" services to smartphones, tablets, PCs, connected TVs and traditional set-top boxes.
