President and COO Mendels to Become Chief Executive at Beginning of Q2

Jeremy Allaire, founder, chairman and CEO of online video-management provider Brightcove, will relinquish the chief executive role at the end of the first quarter, the company announced Thursday.

The company said David Mendels, currently president and chief operating officer of Brightcove, will become the CEO at the beginning of the second quarter of 2013. Allaire will become executive chairman and will “continue to be actively involved” in the company’s strategic planning, product development and key customer relationships, Brightcove said.

Netflix announced the pricing of an offering of $500 million in debt after market close Tuesday -- after the company had earlier in the day said it was seeking to raise $400 million in debt financing -- which it plans to use for general corporate purposes, including funding original TV series as well as "potential acquisitions and strategic transactions."

Time Warner Inc.’s Turner Broadcasting System and Warner Bros. Television Group announced a deal with Netflix for complete past seasons of animated and live-action programming from Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. Animation and Adult Swim, as well as the TNT’s serialized drama Dallas.

The first two seasons of TNT’s remake of Dallas, produced by Warner Horizon Television, will be available exclusively via Netflix in January 2014.

The U.S. Postal Service is improperly giving Netflix’s DVD mailers preferential treatment, a federal appeals court ruled Friday in granting a review requested by videogame DVD rental service GameFly.

Netflix has been trying to migrate customers to its Internet streaming service, which costs far less per title than DVD mailers. The company at one point said it mailed upwards of 2 million DVDs per day.

Microsoft Officially Names Sling Media Co-Founder VP in Interactive Entertainment Business Unit

Microsoft officially announced Thursday the appointment of Blake Krikorian, formerly CEO and co-founder of Sling Media, as corporate vice president for its Interactive Entertainment Business, which includes the Xbox Live service.

The announcement follows Microsoft’s acquisition of Krikorian's company, id8 Group R2 Studios, which was developing home-automation applications. Krikorian will report to Marc Whitten, chief product officer for IEB.
