The National Cable & Telecommunications Association has issued its annual call for nominations for the Vanguard Awards, the cable industry’s highest honor. Now in their 48th year, the Vanguard Awards honor the cable industry’s foremost leaders in management, technology, programming, operations and marketing whose accomplishments merit the recognition of the entire industry.

Pasadena, Calif. -- Showtime's highest-rated series, Dexter, will return early for its eighth season on June 30, Showtime president of entertainment president David Nevins announced at the Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday.

Dexter, which had always aired in the fall, will give up its old timeslot to Homeland, now the network's second most-watched series in a bid to "harness the strength of these two shows to launch new series," Nevins said.

Pasadena, Calif. -- Showtime has given a series commitment to psychosexual horror series Penny Dreadful created, written and executive-produced by John Logan, the network announced at the Television Critics Association press tour Saturday.

Penny Dreadful brings characters from literature, including Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and figures from Dracula together as they grapple with their alienation in turn-of-the-century Victorian London.
