Telemedicine Hurt by DBS Merger Death

To the Editor:

Our organization is greatly concerned about the FCC's [Federal Communications Commission] reported rejection of the EchoStar/DirecTV satellite merger ("FCC Rejects EchoStar-Hughes Merger").

We hope the FCC will work diligently to achieve the merger's important benefits, while addressing any legitimate concerns it may have about competitiveness.

BET Movies Sets Original Film

Englewood, Colo. -- BET Movies/Starz!3 has started work on
its first original production, Funny Valentine, which stars Alfre Woodard, Loretta
Devine and CCH Pounder.

The movie, the story of a childhood friendship between
cousins that deepens over the years, is being directed by Julie Dash, whose Daughters
of the Dust
was the first nationally distributed feature-length film by an
African-American woman.

Oregon LFAs Say AT&T Tried to Redefine Terms

Oregon's Portland and Multnomah counties responded
last week to AT&T Corp.'s bid to reverse a court ruling that allows the two local
jurisdictions to unbundle the company's broadband pipe.

In reply comments to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals,
the local franchising authorities said AT&T has shifted the focus of its case by
introducing claims that were never made before the lower court that reached the decision
the company is seeking to overturn.

Jordan's Return a Fast Break for TBS

Michael Jordan may not be able to elevate like he did during his days with
the Chicago Bulls, but ratings leaped for TBS Superstation Tuesday night during
his latest comeback to the National Basketball Association.

The Oct. 30 contest between Jordan's Washington Wizards and the New York
Knicks garnered a 3.3 rating (2.8 million households), according to Nielsen
Media Research. That performance set an NBA regular-season season-premiere mark
for basic cable.

FSN to Debut Action-Sports Series

Dubbing it the 'Access Hollywood of action
sports,' Fox Sports Net will debut a daily show in January covering the emerging
sports genre.

54321 will target the competitions, lifestyle music
and culture surrounding such action sports as skateboarding, surfing,
snowboarding and freestyle Moto-X, FSN executives said.

The half-hour show,
which will air at 5 p.m., will run on FSN's owned and
affiliated regional sports networks.

Time Warners VOD Trials Show Slow Rollouts Are Accelerating

Time Warner Cable's plans for two real-world
video-on-demand tests are seen as another sign that widespread VOD deployments by cable
operators could happen soon.

The giant MSO announced plans last week to begin
engineering testing of VOD equipment and a movies-on-demand service late this summer in
Austin, Texas, using systems from SeaChange International Inc., and in Tampa, Fla., using
Concurrent Computer Corp. gear.

Three MTV Nets Fly JetBlue

MTV Networks and JetBlue Airways announced Friday that they have launched VH1 Classic, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite and TV Land on the DirecTV Airborne service aboard all JetBlue flights.

DirecTV Airborne is DirecTV Inc.'s programming service for commercial airlines, delivered through its "LiveTV" in-flight entertainment system.

JetBlue is the only commercial airline in the world that offers DirecTV Airborne free of charge at every seat.

New York -- Comedy Central's smash hit South
Park
continued to dominate the cable-ratings landscape, drawing a 6.7 rating for its
Feb. 25 first-run episode. The Feb. 28 repeat of that show earned a 3.9 rating, good for
eighth on the week, according to TBS Research analysis of Nielsen Media Research figures.
More impressive, South Park drew more households in both adults 18-to-49 and
25-to-54 than any other network's programming, even though Comedy Central is in only
about 45 million homes.
