Seeks to Capitalize on Rapidly Growing Demand for Digital Services, Content

Time Warner Inc. and China Media Capital (CMC) announced a strategic investment partnership that will seek to capitalize on China's rapidly expanding media sector and the demand for content on multiple platforms.

The companies announced the agreement at the 2013 Fortune Global Forum in the Chinese city of Chengdu.

The partnership is another example of how U.S. media companies are working to expand their presence in international markets and is part of Time Warner's push to expand its international revenues.

Travel Channel has rolled out a stand-alone, TV Everywhere app for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch devices that provides authenticated subscribers with access to full episodes and a streaming video lineup that will be updated on a daily basis.

The app is available to pay TV subscribers that get service from participating providers. AT&T U-verse TV, Bright House Networks, Comcast, DirecTV, Cablevision Systems, and Time Warner Cable  are among those listed on a version of the app downloaded Thursday.

In another senior level executive move, CBS Corp. named Ray Hopkins president of Television Networks Distribution.

Hopkins, who had been chief operating officer of the New York Yankees’ YES Network, will report to Joseph Ianniello, who yesterday was promoted from CFO at CBS to COO. News Corp. bought a 49% stake in YES next year and YES distribution activity moved into the Fox Cable Networks camp.

Second-screen TV company zeebox said it is customizing the second-screen experience by letting fans, networks and advertisers set up rooms where they can share experiences built around selected programming.

Zeebox began letting users set up rooms during a soft launch that began Monday, when the updated app became available at Apple's App Store. It has also seeded its new environment by creating some 4,000 rooms that users can visit and plans to post a list of the 50 most popular rooms.

Telemundo said its Tuesday night telecast of Mexico’s important 1-0 win over Jamaica in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match was the top sporting event on television that night regardless of language.

The NBCUniversal-owned Spanish-language broadcaster claimed an average of nearly 2.9 million total viewers and more than 1.7 million viewers ages 18-49, citing Nielsen Live Plus Same Day data. On a cumulative basis, the Rumbo al Mundial match reached more than 5.7 million viewers, including about 3.38 million in the 18-49 demo, Telemundo said.

Integration Clears Way to Stream ViewNow VOD Service to MSO-Leased TiVo DVRs

Vubiquity and TiVo have inked a deal to integrate Vubiquity’s authenticated AnyVU streaming service with TiVo broadband-connected DVRs that are sold to MSOs and leased out to cable customers.

The integration, which does not target TiVo boxes sold at retail, will pave the way to offer ViewNow, a subscription movie package from Vubiquity  that features more than 2,000 movies and is offered on set-tops as well as tablets, PCs and other IP-connected devices.
