CenturyLink  said it had restored broadband service to “most customers” by mid-day Tuesday following an outage that apparently had affected a significant portion of the company’s 5.8 million broadband customers since early Tuesday morning.

“We had an issue with our core routers, which created problems for customers using some of our services,” a spokeswoman said, noting that most CenturyLink broadband customers were back online by 1 p.m. ET/Noon CT.

CenturyLink has been struck with a broadband outage that appears to be affecting  much of its 37-state footprint.  

The telco, which served 5.85 million high-speed Internet subs as of the end of 2012, has not disclosed a cause for the outage or when it expects to have customers back online.
