Microsoft Officially Names Sling Media Co-Founder VP in Interactive Entertainment Business Unit

Microsoft officially announced Thursday the appointment of Blake Krikorian, formerly CEO and co-founder of Sling Media, as corporate vice president for its Interactive Entertainment Business, which includes the Xbox Live service.

The announcement follows Microsoft’s acquisition of Krikorian's company, id8 Group R2 Studios, which was developing home-automation applications. Krikorian will report to Marc Whitten, chief product officer for IEB.

Also Thursday, Digitalsmiths announced that app developer i.TV selected the Digitalsmiths Seamless Discovery system as its primary video-search solution, including for the recently launched Nintendo Wii U game console.

Las Vegas -- While Dish Network isn’t charting a course toward full a la carte TV pricing, the satellite operator is planning to introduce more “mini packages” of thematically grouped channels similar to those it offers today to manage programming costs, according to senior vice president of programming David Shull.

“We think that’s the answer to the bundling conundrum the industry is facing,” Shull said in an interview here at the 2013 International CES.

Las Vegas -- Cablevision Systems announced a deal with Netflix to pipe Internet video directly into the MSO’s network, which will let the operator’s subscribers access high-bandwidth content including “Super HD” and 3DTV content from Netflix.

Cablevision is participating in Netflix’s Open Connect private content delivery network, which it launched last year.
