MSO Extends In-Home Streaming of 90-Plus Live TV Channels To Browsers

Cox Communications has extended Cox TV Connect to Macs and PCs, the latest group of devices to gain access to an app that provides in-home streaming of more than 90 linear TV channels to connected devices that are within reach of the customer’s home network.

NEW YORK — With the rise of online and mobile video, TV Everywhere is seen as a way for pay TV programmers to protect their property from being completely usurped.

"The TV Everywhere aspect of our business, specifically around sports and live events, is an important part of protecting the pay TV ecosystem," NBC Sports Group chairman Mark Lazarus said during a keynote conversation with Multichannel News news editor Mike Reynolds during NewBay Media's Sports Business & Technology Summit on Wednesday.

Apple announced Wednesday that  the HBO GO and WatchESPN authenticated TV Everywhere applications are now offered directly on Apple TV, the company's broadband-connected video streaming device.

The HBO GO app offers full seasons of original series as well as movies and behind-the-scenes extras, while WatchESPN delivers live streams of ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3 and ESPN Buzzer Beater/Goal Line, as well as segments from programs such as E:60 and Outside The Lines.

The Xfinity TV Player has reached the Kindle Fire HD, marking the latest connected device to support Comcast’s authenticated video app.

“We continue to work with our partners to launch more content on more devices than ever before. Tablet devices in particular have become a popular platform to watch TV shows and movies while on-the-go,” Comcast VP of product development and planning wrote on the MSO’s corporate blog.
