YES Dunks Top Nets' Rating with Lakers Telecast
Brooklyn was on the wrong end of a Kobe Bryant-led run that gave the game to Los Angeles, but the Nielsens were more than right for YES Network last night.
The regional sports network’s coverage of the Feb. 5 game from Barclays Center was the most-viewed and highest-rated regular season Nets telecast ever, averaging 299,000 viewers and a 3.08 household rating in the New York DMA, according to Nielsen data. The telecast peaked during the 9:45 p.m. quarter hour, with a 4.47 rating and 451,000 viewers as the Lakers secured the victory with a 10-0 game-ending run.
The previous most-viewed and highest-rated regular season Nets game on YES was the Dec. 1, 2012 match-up with the Miami Heat, which averaged 242,000 viewers and a 2.15 rating in the New York DMA.
Through its first 43 Nielsen-rated games this season, YES has averaged a 1.10 rating with its Nets game telecasts, up 150% from the 0.44 it registered through its first 43 telecasts of the lockout-shortened last season 2011-12 NBA season.
YES has also seen major increases among key demos for its 2012-13 game telecasts, with males 25 to 54 up 200% and guys 18 to 49 ahead 126%. Relative to adults 25 to 54 and persons 18 to 49, Nets’ telecasts have grown 211% and 150%, respectively.
