Position Title: Director - Distribution, Affiliate Sales & Marketing
Position Reports To: Vice President, Distribution - Affiliate Sales & Marketing
Position Summary: The MLB Network seeks a Director with strong knowledge and passion for baseball as well as the cable industry. The Director will provide sales, marketing and analytical services to help expand the distribution of MLB Network and establish and maintain excellent relationships with cable, satellite and telco affiliates nationwide.
Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include:
•· Day-to-day management of assigned corporate and regional MSO accounts - current affiliates and prospects
•· Foster and maintain relationships with marketing/ad sales contacts and decision-makers at local regions, divisions and systems
•· Generate new business by negotiating affiliate deals with small and mid-sized MSOs
•· Provide analytical support, updates and overviews to VP of Distribution and other senior executives on status of MLB Network business as well as the latest media industry trends/news
•· Ability to plan and develop business models to create and execute roll-out of new MLB Network products
•· Strategize and develop innovative ways to increase standard linear distribution of network as well as alternate distribution methods
•· Manage day-to-day relationships with various cable/telco cooperatives (new launches, etc.)
•· Intimately involved in monitoring and enforcing all affiliated-related contractual compliance issues
•· Strategically develop and execute local and corporate promotional programs and campaigns to help affiliates maximize value from network
•· Create and implement local ad sales marketing initiatives and promotions for affiliates
•· Work closely with affiliates to help leverage the network partnership and maximize promotion, tune-in and awareness of MLB Network.
•· Represent network effectively at various trade shows and conferences
•· Maintain affiliate database
•· Active member of national and local cable associations
•· Host and provide hospitality at games and MLB Network events
•· Ability to manage an extensive travel schedule
Skills & Experience: The ideal candidate must have most if not all of the following skills and experiences:
•· A minimum of 8 years experience in cable affiliate sales and marketing and/or sports marketing is required.
•· Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
•· Individual must work well in a dynamic environment and be able to recommend and implement process improvements.
•· Must be extremely organized, detail-oriented and able to work across multiple projects, and across entire organization. Ability to organize and schedule work effectively. Ability to work well independently and under time constraints. Successful at multi-tasking.
•· Strong leadership experience. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Positive can-do attitude with demonstrated creativity, initiative and persistence.
•· Ability to persuade and resolve problems in a professional manner.
•· Extremely strong analytical and modeling skills
•· Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Masters preferred.
