Cablevision Systems Corp. appointed Lawrence Burian
vice president and associate general counsel. Burian will continue to provide legal counsel to senior Cablevision management regarding strategic matters, including material litigation, corporate transactions and corporate policy. He had been assistant general counsel.

Encoda Systems Inc. appointed Toni McHugh
senior vice president of sales for the company's Media Management Solutions division. McHugh previously was vice president and European director of global advertising sales at CNBC Europe.
Fox Sports Net
Erin Delaney
was promoted to advertising sales account executive at Fox Sports Net South. Delaney will be responsible for all accounts in advertising agency relationships in Nashville and Memphis, while also handling several Georgia accounts for the network.

Judith McHale, president and chief operating officer of Discovery Communications, Inc. was elected to the board of directors of Host Marriott Corp. McHale has served as president and COO of DCI since 1995. She also serves on the boards of Polo Ralph Lauren, John Hancock Financial Services Inc. and the Potomac Electric Power Company.
Insight
Insight Communications Co. appointed Bryan Smith
vice president of marketing strategy and analysis. Smith will be responsible for of consumer marketing strategies, customer communications and data analysis for Insight's video, telephone and high-speed Internet products.
Insight also consolidated its operating regions, expanding the responsibilities of three senior officers. Senior vice president of operations Gregg Graff
will oversee the Southern Midwest region; senior vice president of operations John Hutton
will be responsible for the Central Eastern region; and senior vice president of operations David Servies
will oversee the Western region.
NBC Cable
Mark Hotz
was promoted to senior vice president of marketing for NBC Cable Networks. Hotz had been vice president of marketing and e-business initiatives for the cable distribution group. Hotz's new responsibilities will include leading future marketing development efforts for the strategic deployment of NBC Cable Networks brands.
RASCO
Rainbow Advertising Sales Corp. promoted Corey Silverman
senior vice president of advertising sales for Muchmusic USA. Silverman, who previously served as VP of advertising sales for Bravo and the Independent Film Channel, will oversee all advertising sales and sponsorship initiatives and manage the day-to-day operation of all ad sales related functions, including setting and implementing sales strategies and creating revenue goals for Muchmusic.
Sci Fi
Mark Stern
was tapped as senior vice president of original programming for Sci Fi Channel. Stern will head up all original programming for the channel, including episodic, longform and alternative development, as well as current programming.

was appointed director of communications for The Learning Channel. Hanley will develop, implement and oversee network branding, positioning and communications campaigns for TLC in the U.S. and Canada.
Tribune Entertainment
Rick Marker
was elevated to director of eastern region sales for Tribune Entertainment Co. Marker will be responsible for overseeing all program sales of Tribune Entertainment programming throughout its East Coast territory.
Trio
Trio has named Todd Ames
as its director of consumer marketing and Jane Olson
its creative director.
Ames will oversee Trio's advertising, creative strategy, media planning and marketing-related partnerships, while Olson will handle its brand messaging and on-air promotion campaigns.
Most recently Ames was vice president of brand marketing at LexiQuest Inc., a software startup. Olson previously was director of on-air promotion and branding at AMC Networks.
TV Land
Karen Levy
was promoted to vice president of Nick at Nite and TV Land consumer marketing. Levy previously served as director of consumer marketing for both channels.

In the Dec. 9 People Section, the caption for Abby Greensfelder was incorrect. Greensfelder is vice president of programming and development for the Discovery Channel.
