Twitter Nabs Thursday Night NFL Streaming Deal

Twitter has secured a deal to stream the National Football League’s Thursday night games package, Bloomberg reported Tuesday. The league confirmed the pact later, via a tweet by commissioner Roger Goodell.

Twitter won out amid a bidding process that involved Verizon Communications, Yahoo, Amazon, and Facebook, which dropped out last week, Bloomberg said, citing an unnamed source.

The deal would help the NFL engage with younger viewers, a growing group of cord-cutters and give it another outlet on the popular social network.

The deal could provide a boost to Twitter, which has been struggling for growth. Twitter ended 2015 with 320 million average monthly active users (MAUs), the same it had in the previous quarter.

Twitter shares were up 2.11% (36 cents) to $17.45 each in pre-market trading Tuesday.
