Suddenlink Rolls Home Automation Service

Suddenlink Communications said it’s taking a step beyond home security with the launch of a home automation service that also bakes in 24/7 monitoring and remote control of a variety of home functions.

Pricing and fees for the service, called Connected Home, will vary based on promotional offers and other services that are tied in. But following the installation, it will sell for as low as $30 per month for customers who take Suddenlink’s video, phone and high-speed Internet services, a spokesman said.

In addition to the MSO’s existing home security service, the Connected Home offering also lets customers remotely arm and disarm their security systems, control lights, thermostats and door locks, and receive text and email notices when home events are triggered. The system can also be equipped to stream video and pictures from inside or outside the customer’s home.

Suddenlink said Connected Home, which can be controlled through a apps for iOS and Android devices, includes 24/7 professional monitoring that is CSAA Five Diamond Certified and UL Listed.

“Our customers say they are very interested in these new options and with Connected Home we’re making sure we can meet their needs now and in the future,” said Suddenlink chief marketing officer Jerry Dow, in a statement.

With Connected Home Suddenlink is expanding into a product area that is also being targeted by cable competitors such as Verizon Communications and AT&T.
