Cablevision Systems Corp. has upped the speed for all of its broadband subscribers at no extra charge, while establishing new product tiers to meet the needs of its varied customer base.

The tri-state area’s largest provider said it has increased the speed for all of its residential Optimum Online customers, translating into faster download times and enhanced streaming, among other benefits, without additional costs.

Additionally, the MSO has introduced Optimum Online broadband product tiers aimed at offering the proper speeds for every type of user.

Early this year, Cablevision, for the first time in a decade, increased the price of its broadband service by $5 per month. Last summer, Verizon Communications -- a key competitor Cablevision's New York-area footprint -- this summer, raised the price of its FiOS Internet service for bundle customers by $10 to $15 per month, while also enhancing its speeds.

While prices vary by how many products a subscriber takes in a bundle from the MSO its basic Optimum Online package retails for $39.95 per month.

Optimum Online offers speeds of up to 15 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream, up from 2 Mbps, enabling customers to be online with two or three devices online at once. The package also includes automatic sign-in for five mobile devices to connect to Optimum WiFi.

Available for $4.95 more per month than the abovementioned basic broadband offering, Optimum Online Ultra 50 trebles subscriber speed, up to 50 Mbps downstream and 25 Mbps upstream, from 5Mbps. Cablevision is positioning this level of service for households operating four to 10 devices online simultaneously. Customers can also tap the Optimum App, play an online game and stream movies at the same time. Ultra 50 customers can auto-authenticate 10 mobile devices to Optimum WiFi.

For those who prefer/need greater connectivity Optimum Online Ultra 101 proffers speeds of up to 101 Mbps downstream and 35 Mbps upstream, from 15 Mbps. That affords households the capacity to stream their Netflix, Amazon and Hulu concurrently, while also using the Optimum App and playing online games. Moreover, Ultra 101 customers, who pay $55 over the Optimum Online rate, can auto-authenticate 15 devices on Optimum WiFi.

In addition to gaining access to the aforementioned WiFi hotspots, Optimum Online customers  have PC protection with Internet security, including anti-virus, firewall and parental control software and get full access to and its app.

Optimum Online customers have five email accounts, each with up to 2 GBs of storage, while subscribers to the two higher levels of service can have up to 15 email accounts, housing 5 GBs of storage per.
