Extreme Home Makeover on Demand
Time Warner Cable — Nebraska
When Time Warner Cable found out that ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition was coming to Lincoln, it saw an opportunity to draw viewers to its new local on demand channel. It worked out a trade agreement with the local paper to provide them video clips for its Web site in exchange for advertisements in the paper to promote Time Warner Cable's coverage of the event. Every day of production, Time Warner Cable produced short clips for the newspaper's Web site and longer programs for its own on demand channel. In November, Nebraska on Demand surpassed 18,000 views while it had averaged 2,000 views per month previously.

The Great Gumbo Cook-Off: Cox Greater Louisiana's Integration Celebration
Cox Communications, Baton Rouge, LA
The Governmental and Public Affairs staff (GPA) produced a creative event that commemorated the assimilation of two unique Cox systems, bridged the cultural gap and improved morale. The Great Gumbo Cook-off encouraged employees from both systems to work together and create positive working relationships throughout the region. On February 11, 2006, employees and their families enjoyed food, music and fellowship with members of the new Cox Greater Louisiana family. Six teams, each with representatives from both systems, competed for the title of “Best Gumbo Chef in Greater Louisiana” with key community influencers serving as guest judges.

Comcast Builds A Playground
Silver Spring, MD
Comcast Cares Day is a national day of service in Comcast markets throughout the country. Comcast's Maryland Tri-County Area joined with the citizens and elected officials of the City of Hyattsville, KaBOOM!, and the Latin American Youth Council to construct an entire playground in a single day. This was more than the average community service project. It was an event, a celebration, and a tribute to the determination of an entire community. The playground construction fostered a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie among project participants and formed alliances with non-profit partners whose visions mirror that of Comcast's strategic national partners.
Teen Summit on Internet Safety
The explosive growth of social networking sites like MySpace.com has greatly increased the dangers facing children online. To educate teens and parents on the dangers and encourage safer surfing, Cox Communications conducted a national Teen Summit on Internet Safety in Washington, D.C. Hosted by well-known children's advocate John Walsh, the summit featured a compelling discussion among the participating teens, who also met with elected officials on Capitol Hill and educated them about Internet safety. The summit generated significant press coverage and yielded practical advice for parents and caregivers on how to best manage their kids' Internet use.

Freedom Week and Operation Home Base on FSN North
FSN North went to extraordinary lengths to offer encouragement to local military members the week leading up to the July 4 Holiday. From June 26-30 during “Freedom Week,” FSN North had the first-ever sports network reporting team embedded in Iraq deliver live reports to FSN Live Twins pre- and postgames that originated from military bases around the region. “Freedom Week” concluded on July 1 with “Operation Home Base,” a commercial-free telecast of the Minnesota Twins-Milwaukee Brewers game. Commercials were replaced with live interactions between troops and their families, live conversations between Twins players and the troops and human-interest features.

“Rescuing Recess,” part of Cartoon Network's Get Animated cause brand, seeks to recognize unstructured break time as an essential element of the school day and to connect kids, parents, educators and community members as advocates to either bring back or enhance recess as part of the daily school curriculum. By partnering with 13 of the nation's leading child advocacy and education organizations, “Rescuing Recess” has impacted over 5 million students nationwide. To date, the campaign's letter writing and grant program as well as the launch of “National Recess Week” has provided nearly $1 million in cash and playground equipment to support daily recess in schools.
Atlanta Chapter of Cable Positive
The Atlanta Chapter of Cable Positive's Positively Art event has become the chapter's signature fundraiser each year. For the 3rd annual event, the chapter sought to enhance the AIDS awareness component, elevate the artistic presentation, and increase the funds raised for HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and care programs. The event met and exceeded all of those goals, nearly doubling the attendance and amount of money raised.
