Atlantic Broadband Brings 1-Gig to Miami Footprint

Atlantic Broadband said it has introduced 1-Gig residential and business broadband services to its entire Miami-area footprint.

The deployment, which leans on DOCSIS 3.1 technology on Atlantic Broadband’s HFC plant there, includes Miami Beach and surrounding areas such as Aventura, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Golden Beach, North Bay Village, Pinecrest, South Miami, Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, Brickell, Wynwood, the Biscayne corridor and downtown Miami.

The residential version of the service, called GigaEdge, delivers up to 1 Gbps downstream and 50 Mbps down, starting with promotional pricing of $89.99 per month for new customers, while the business-focused offering, branded as Pro GigaEdge, is $199.99 per month for new customers, with a 3-year agreement.

Prior to the 1-Gig launch, Atlantic Broadband’s fastest speeds in the market offered 250 Mbps/20 Mbps.

“With the much-anticipated launch of GigaEdge and Pro GigaEdge, we continue to enhance our position as South Florida’s premier communications provider, delivering unbelievably fast Gigabit internet speeds, the most complete entertainment, and the best hands-on local service available to the communities we serve,” Elizabeth Michelsen, Atlantic Broadband’s VP of and GM for South Florida, said in a statement. “And, with today’s launch, we celebrate the completion of the final phase of Atlantic Broadband’s $6.3 million ‘FastForward Miami’ initiative.”

Atlantic Broadband, a subsidiary of Cogeco Communications, has 246,000 TV service customers located in western Pennsylvania, Miami Beach, Maryland/Delaware, Aiken, S.C., and eastern Connecticut.
