Cable All Over Tech Emmy Noms

Cablevision Systems Corp., Comcast Corp., Charter Communications Inc., Time Warner Cable, Toon Disney and Buzztime were among the nominees announced Monday by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for the organization's advanced-media-technology Emmy Awards competition.

The winners will be announced Nov. 15 at the Technology and Engineering Emmy Awards ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.

The four nominees in the enhancement of original television content are: ABC Enhanced TV and Zetools for Celebrity Mole; DirecTV Inc. for DirecTV “NFL Sunday Ticket” Enhanced Service; Game Show Network, Oceanic Cable (Time Warner) and GoldPocket Interactive for GSN Interactive on Oceanic Time Warner Cable; ABC Family and Toon Disney for Jetix Cards Live! Enhanced TV; and CBC Television Network & Web for its Zed "Uncut" episode.

Cablevision garnered two nominations in the nonsynchronous enhancement of original television content category, for its iO Dashboard and its iO Games Channel.

Other nominations went to EchoStar Communications Corp.’s Dish Network for Showtime Interactive, CBS TV for Survivor: All Stars Interactive and Discovery Kids for You Do the Toons.

Several MSOs showed up in the category of creation of nontraditional programs and platforms. Comcast was nominated for Ted’s Chicago launch, while Charter and Adelphia were nominated for Moxi Media Center user information. DirecTV was nominated for its Sunday Ticket platform, Toon Disney and ABC Family for their Jetix Cards Live platform and GoldPocket for its EventMatrix interactive-TV system.

In the creation of video games category, Buzztime Trivia Channel's launch on Time Warner in Maine was nominated along with Time Warner's Sesame Street Play and Learn Channel. Cablevision was nominated for its Zodiac Gaming Arcade Package and ABC Family/Toon Disney for Jetix Cards Live!

The academy will present awards in five other categories, including video-on-demand-server technology, but it has not released the list of nominees for those categories.
