Cablevision Launches International VoIP Feature

Cablevision Systems Corp. has added a direct-dial international-calling feature for its voice-over-Internet-protocol Optimum Voice customers.

The MSO said the rates it will charge customers will be 25% below those charged by long-distance competitors.

The service also includes a remote-access feature that allows Optimum Voice customers to access their accounts and make international calls from any phone in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

To activate the feature, customers have to visit the portal online (www.optimumvoice.com) and register, making a minimum payment of $10. Customers can purchase additional minutes at the site by activating an “auto-recharge” option, which automatically recharges their account when the balance falls below $5.

Customers complete calls by dialing a toll-free access number, the 10-digit phone number, then a security code. Usage is automatically billed to their Optimum international-calling balance.
