CES 2010: HSN Goes Shopping On Samsung TVs

Samsung Electronics will offer the HSN Shop by Remote app on select 2010 models of its Internet-connected HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc players and home-theater systems.

The HSN Shop by Remote app will let viewers access live streaming HSN video and make purchases using their remote controls, available through Samsung's Internet@TV - Content Service.

"We think TV is more than just for viewing your favorite programs," said John Revie, Samsung's senior vice president of visual display marketing. . "We're committed to... transforming television viewing into an interactive experience."

HSN Shop by Remote is scheduled to be available as part the launch of Samsung Apps in spring 2010 free of charge to consumers. Premium apps will be available for purchase on Samsung Apps in the summer.

To use the feature Samsung users will require a broadband connection. The HSN app will show the current on-air product; a daily special and "deal of the day"; and the last 15 items aired.

Comcast recently deployed HSN Shop by Remote to more than 8 million subscribers with an Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) app, and the shopping service is also available on Dish Network, Verizon FiOS TV and Time Warner Cable's Oceanic division.

"This latest partnership with Samsung will continue our tradition of developing new ways to engage consumers by allowing us to reach an audience that does not otherwise have access to our Shop By Remote service," HSN vice president of advanced services John McDevitt said.
