Comcast Cable Promotes Avgiris to CFO

Comcast said Thursday that it has promoted Cathy Avgiris to Chief Financial Officer of Comcast Cable, effective July 1.

Avgiris, a 21-year Comcast veteran, will report to Comcast Cable CEO Neil Smit.

 “Cathy brings broad operational expertise, a strong financial background and a deep understanding of our Company and our industry to her new role,” said Smit in a statement. “She is an exceptional leader who has successfully managed some of Comcast’s largest and fastest-growing operations and I look forward to working with her as we continue to grow our business.”

She succeeds Dave Scott, who is retiring after 20 years with the company.

Dave has had a terrific career at Comcast Cable and we wish him the best of luck in his retirement. For over 20 years, he has served in many different leadership roles and has been an exceptional CFO and business leader for the cable company,” said chairman and CEO Brian Roberts in a statement.

Avgiris has been instrumental in the growth and development of Comcast for more than twenty years. In her current role as executive vice president and general manager, Communications and Data Services, she leads Comcast’s XFINITY Internet, XFINITY Voice and consumer wireless business. Under her leadership, Comcast has become the largest Internet provider and one of the largest phone providers in the U.S, with 19 million Internet and 10 million Voice customers. She is also responsible for launching the Verizon Wireless partnership, managing the company’s Internet Essentials program, which provides low-cost Internet service to low-income families, and overseeing Comcast’s WiFi initiative.

During her tenure with the Comcast, Avgiris has also served as SVP and general manager of Comcast Digital Voice and SVP of Finance for Comcast Cable, where she managed all financial and administrative activity for Comcast’s high-speed Internet and Voice services.

Prior to joining Comcast in 1992, Avgiris spent 11 years in finance, serving as Chief Financial Officer of Drexel Industries, Inc., a publicly held company, and as an Audit Manager with Deloitte & Touche.

Avgiris holds a B.A. from Baruch College and is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and Pennsylvania.
