Comcast Launches VOD in Seattle

Comcast Corp. has begun rolling out video-on-demand in its Seattle-area system, with plans to reach 1.3 million homes in western Washington by April 1.

Basic programming includes content from BBC America, Comedy Central, Cable News Network, Cartoon Network, Court TV, Outdoor Life Network, Style, Sundance Channel, Anime Network, atom.tv, TechTV, PBS Kids, BBC Kids and National Geographic Channel.

Subscription-VOD services from Cinemax, Home Box Office, Showtime, Starz! and The Movie Channel are available at no charge to subscribers of those channels. Hit movies cost $3.99 each and movie-library titles $2.99.

Comcast is supporting the launch this week with a VOD demonstration inside an 80-foot mobile trailer parked outside of a Seattle call center.
