DirecTV Inc. is planning to drop NBC Universal Cable-owned Trio at the beginning of the year. The direct-broadcast satellite provider said it is exercising an option in its current deal with the pop-culture channel.
DirecTV, which offers Trio on its basic-tier service, represents more than one-half of the network’s 20 million households.
A Trio spokeswoman said, “NBC Universal continues to evaluate the future of the network in relation to its overall digital strategy.”
