South Asia World has joined EchoStar Communications Corp.’s Dish Network’s international-programming lineup.

The network is a 24-hour news and infotainment channel exclusively for South Asians living in the United States. South Asia World -- broadcast from studios in New York, London, New Delhi and Mumbai -- covers politics, sports, entertainment, Bollywood, cricket, business and the arts from India and the subcontinent. The network also has a special focus on the issues and needs of the Indian-American community.

This addition brings the number of South Asian channels available through Dish to 17. Overall, the direct-broadcast satellite provider airs 99 international channels from over 25 countries in more than 25 languages.

Dish also announced Thursday that it will offer local channels via satellite in the Meridian, Miss., area.

Meridian-area Dish customers in seven counties -- Choctow, Sumter, Clarke, Kemper, Lauderdale, Neshoba and Newton -- can now receive ABC channel 11 (WTOK), CBS channel 24 (WMDN) and NBC channel 30 (WGBC).

Dish now offers local channels in 152 cities and their metro areas, in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
